Have you had an incomplete dental exam?
Experience a complete dental examination like you have never experienced before! When you attend a dental practice for a new patient check-up, what you get is a peek inside the mouth, a few x rays and advice about problems in your mouth. It’s just a check-up, isn’t it?? But how about if dental examination is more than just a check-up?
More than just a check-up – what does that mean?
There are 6 systems which constitute an area that dental surgeon deals with;
- Teeth
- Gums
- The skin lining the inside of the mouth
- The jaw joints
- The airways
- The aesthetics of the smile
In a complete exam you will spend 45 minutes to 1 hour when we will assess the teeth to check for decay, failing fillings, cracks in teeth, discolouration of teeth or fillings, wear of teeth, infections of teeth etc. We take multiple x-rays which are helpful in making a proper diagnosis. This is followed by a screen for gum disease. Sometimes a more detailed gum chart is required to determine the true extent of gum disease. You will be given a lot of advice and instructions on your oral hygiene routine. We also undertake a comprehensive visual oral cancer screening. This is critical because there has been an upward trend in oral cancer in the last decade. Early detection prevents long term risk or mortality. We follow this up with a detailed analysis of the health of the temporomandibular joint. The jaw joint is checked for and clicks, grating, extent of movement. The muscles moving the jaw are also assessed. Many a times these problems go undetected and patients suffer silently. Did you know, the biggest cause of migraine is tooth clenching and jaw grinding?
We assess the condition of airways? Many people snore without being aware on them doing so. Sometimes it can be life threatening. Fortunately, the treatment can be recommended based on the severity.
We assess the aesthetics and would offer suggestions to enhance the smile. We record a series of 21 photographs and then scan your arches using an intra oral scanner.
The scanner creates a dynamic record of your jaw. We repeat the scan annually to help track changes happening in the mouth. The 21 photographs and the digital intra oral scan with digital x rays will help you see your mouth, like you have never seen before.
We can explain what you see and what may be the cause of the issue.
We will offer you a complete treatment plan at the end of the appointment including the estimated cost of the treatment. We will offer a hygienist appointment if needed. Referrals to specialists will also be discussed if appropriate.
Experience a complete examination like you have never experienced before.
